FAQ

  • What is River's Edge Curriculum?
River's Edge Curriculum was created to meet the needs of churches reaching children in a creative and relevant way. This multi-age curriculum allows children ages K-5th grade to experience God's Word coming to life and to enjoy fun, thematic activities. We provide curriculum that is fully reproducible within your church setting. Our curriculum is effective, easy-to-use, flexible, and undated. You can use it for your children's church, weekly club program, VBS, or even Sunday School!

  • How long will the lesson take?
Each lesson takes approximately 45-60 minutes. We have included "Time Stretcher" activities with each lesson that will extend your class time up to 1.5 hours. Some of the "Time Stretchers" will take prep work, while others can be used on the "spur of the moment".

  • Are puppets necessary?
Each week the puppets perform a recommended song that reflects the main theme for the day. If you do not have puppets, you can sing the recommended song as a group. If you have a strong puppet team, you can use a puppet to portray a character.

  • How do I use the PC PowerPoint?
Every curriculum book comes with a PowerPoint presentation to accompany each lesson. It is a wonderful tool to capture the attention of all children. Sometimes there is music or sound effects added to a slide to really set the mood! You do not even have to own PowerPoint to use it - a PowerPoint viewer is included which allows you utilize the presentation without the actual program. When you see a (pp) symbol in the book, this indicates to forward the slide.

  • Should I use PC or DVD format?
If you have the resources to run PowerPoint from a computer onto a screen, that is the optimal choice. Because the DVD format runs like a movie, pausing it can cause some ongoing movements/animations to pause as well. DVD is a great option for people who do not have the necessary equipment to run PowerPoint from a computer.

  • How do I use the DVD format PowerPoint?
The presentation is the same for the DVD format, but it runs different than regular PC PowerPoint. Think of it like a DVD movie...as you watch a chapter in a movie, it does not stop. If you hit the "next" button you will get the next chapter (in our case the next lesson). When you hit the stop button it will return to the main menu. In our PowerPoint DVD the trick is to use the "pause" button. You will use the pause button until it is time to continue to the next slide. Then you press "play". Those are the only 2 buttons you will need to use on your remote during a presentation.

  • What if I have a small-sized group?
Have the entire group do all activities together. One person can portray all the various characters. Or the teacher can step out of the room, put on a few costume items and become the character.

  • What if I have a large group?
Meet together for the opening puppet, puppet song, character and story. Divide into groups and travel to different stations for the remainder of the lesson.

  • Do you include worship and offering time?
No, it is not included in the curriculum. It is written in a way that worship and offering time can be incorporated almost anywhere within the lesson.
